OAG Special Examination Report

OTTAWA, March 19, 2025 — The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) Special Examination Report by the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) was recently completed and accepted by CATSA’s Board of Directors.

In its report, the OAG concluded that they found no significant deficiencies in CATSA’s corporate management practices and the management of operations.

The OAG’s ten (10) recommendations reflect areas for growth, and CATSA has taken decisive action to address them and reinforce its position as a world-class airport security organization. Of the ten (10) recommendations in the report, CATSA has implemented eight (8) to date. These include developing and implementing a comprehensive risk-based strategy to assess oversight levels based on the risk at each airport, as well as establishing formal guidelines for testing new screening equipment. CATSA has also recently welcomed four (4) new members to its Board of Directors, appointed by the Governor in Council. CATSA is in the process of implementing the two (2) remaining recommendations and aims to have them addressed by the end of April 2025.

CATSA welcomes the Auditor General's findings, which align with our commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence, and we remain dedicated to fostering strong partnerships with industry, our federal partners, and other stakeholders to deliver the most secure aviation security screening service and the best client experience.
